Kombucha Conversation Starter

Prototypes to encourage people to try Kombucha

Microorganisms take over crucial processes in our lives, from food, material or medicine production to computation or data storage. Public education and appreciation are needed to invite microorganisms in our lives and learn to work and live with them ? still, there is widespread fear and mistrust.

Public education and appreciation are needed to invite microorganisms in our lives and learn to work and live with them ? still, there is widespread fear and mistrust.

To invite microorganisms in our lives and live with them (make, feed, care, consume) reduces people's dependency on the food production system, use of resources and money. My goal is to build trust in microbially produced products; engaging people, building relations, share starter cultures and communicate knowledge.

I built structures with Kombucha-tapping mechanisms for the public space, through frequent quick iterations I improved engagement, participation, and mechanics.

I addressed the following issues: lack of trust, municipal regulations, location, and timing.

I succeeded in creating relations: exchange of contacts, provide people with a kombucha starter culture, share instructions.

To push this project forward I aim to create a community for knowledge exchange, to develop the idea of an economy of sharing production.

That is an economy where products get shared through a starter culture together with instructions for local, decentralized production, empowering individuals and offering an alternative to the established food production system.
