Daniel Parnitzke works in the field of biodesign and experiments with organic materials and microorganisms (fungi, kombucha, algae). As part of a scholarship awarded by Kitchen Budapest, he has recently spent a few months in Hungary, primarily working on mycelium research and organizing workshops on the topic. He is particularly interested in sustainable and circular economic models.

In the framework of this exhibition, Parnitzke presents a modular object for growing mushrooms at home. The design object is aimed at consumers who have a sense of responsibility for their waste and would prefer to put organic waste, such as coffee grounds, in the service of food production. The chambers can be enlarged according to the growing waste quantity; as long as they are continuously nurtured, both the mycelium and the object itself are slowly expanding vertically. After a few weeks, we can harvest the fruits of our toil: the Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus Ostreatus).

The original organic waste, now interwoven with mycelium, continues its life cycle in the form of practical hexagonal blocks that can be used for insulation or packaging.
